The NHS number is a unique 10-digit number allocated to every patient in England, Wales and the Isle of Man, either at birth or when NHS care is accessed for the first time, usually by registering with a GP practice. It is used to help healthcare staff and service providers correctly match an individual to their health record.
You can find your NHS number a few ways
- Most communications for the hospital or the NHS will have the NHS number listed, it is also listed on any NHS prescription.
- Listed on your NHS online services home page
- By using the online service provided by NHS England
- By contacting a local health provider for yourself such as ourselves or your local pharmacy.
Please note that your NHS number is only applicable in England, Wales and the Isle of Man. NHS Scotland have their own system which does not interact with NHS England.
